We are deeply grateful to all the volunteers who visit our hospital. Whether educating, performing procedures, or simply talking with locals—you are changing our reality. In doing so, you shape the future by caring for the safety and health of our community. Thank you for your dedication and your big hearts!
Instead of resting, they choose to share their knowledge. To care for human life and health. This summer at our hospital was marked by the dedication of guests from Poland and the building of community regardless of origin.
The past two months have been incredibly busy for our staff, thanks to volunteer doctors. At the turn of June and July, Dr. Jonasz—a neonatologist whose commitment and openness won the hearts of everyone—arrived in Katondwe. This was not his first time collaborating with our hospital. This time, he had the opportunity to work in the newly established neonatal unit. The difference in working conditions is indescribable, especially compared to his experience last year in the pediatric ward. His mission was to provide professional care to newborns and premature babies.
Over several weeks, his knowledge and experience helped train our staff in caring for preemies. With Dr. Jonasz present, mothers felt confident their babies were in the best hands. His extraordinary warmth made everyone feel at ease from the start—they were like a well-coordinated team. He was welcomed so warmly that staff jokingly said they wouldn’t let him return home. The heart he showed will stay with us for a long time.
At the end of July, we welcomed Dr. Agata—a pediatrician and the true heart of neonatology from Łódź. Her dedication was visible in every gesture, especially in the ideas that genuinely improved our work. She showed that in medicine, beyond knowledge and experience, openness to change and the courage to implement it are essential.
Thanks to her solutions, work in the neonatal unit became more efficient. Her practical approach and warmth not only supported our youngest patients but also inspired us to keep going. We’re grateful for the time she spent with us and believe the spark of creativity she brought truly ignited something in our department.
But these weren’t the only wonderful visits this summer. Just days ago, ambassadors from the Afriquia Foundation arrived in Zambia: orthopedic surgeons Dr. Szymon and Dr. Tomasz, along with anesthesiologist Dr. Sara. This was the Foundation’s sixth medical mission and another return for this trio to our hospital.
In recent days, the team worked tirelessly in the operating theater, performing numerous procedures. Thanks to them, patients struggling with various deformities, injuries, or fractures regained mobility. Their visit wasn’t just about medical aid—it was a chance for patients to return to normal life, full of everyday challenges but free from health burdens.
