At the Katondwe Mission Hospital, every day brings new challenges. Our reality is full of very tough moments, when we feel powerless, intertwined with the times that give us great satisfaction from the help we have provided. It is a great joy and a commitment for the future. We want to provide our patients with constant care of the highest possible standard and to constantly improve the conditions in the Hospital. Usually, the reality of life in Africa, in Zambia, is very different from the standards and convenience we know. Nevertheless, we make sure to end each day with a sense of a job well done and gratitude for all the good that has occurred. Of course, it would not be possible without the support of our Donors, for which we are very grateful.

The boy was hospitalized due to a snake bite; unfortunately, there was skin necrosis. It was necessary to decide about skin transplantation. The recovery process after transplantation usually takes some time. However, the most important thing is that the patient's current state of health is good.

This little girl's name is Tonga. Today she is going home with her grandmother to her home village in Mozambique with a wide smile on her face. When she came to us three weeks ago, no one was sure if this would be possible.

Patients, especially the younger ones, need words of comfort, understanding and empathy from us. We are there for them when they need our attention!
Sister Edyta during a conversation with a patient with a congenital heart defect and her mother. The girl is currently on supportive medications and under doctors' supervision. We hope, that surgery will be not necessary.

The boy in the picture who sits so still next to his grandma is named Given. Today, he travelled 35 km from his home for a check-up appointment.
Given is 4 years old. A month ago, he and his mum were involved in a car accident – they were hit by a truck. The mum suffered a serious leg injury, a highly compound lower leg fracture. The boy was brought to Katondwe Mission Hospital in far more dire state.

Areas around the rivers are not the safest places here. Simple, everyday activities like washing clothes or fishing may result in serious injuries or even death. Wild animal attacks are a frequent occurrence, and Katondwe Mission Hospital admits victims not only from our closest area.

At the Katondwe Mission Hospital, we welcome each baby with equal care and pray to God for their happy future. However, receiving a little human into the world is not always easy. As in any hospital, we also have cases of complicated births, and the African reality of Katondwe makes providing medical assistance much more difficult.
This time, another healthy baby was born, assisted by the gynaecological and surgical team which will stay in the Katondwe Mission Hospital for several more days.

The Katondwe Mission Hospital in snapshots.
The end of the week. The hospital is busy, and we are not asleep. Patients arrived injured by gunshots.
A fortnight earlier, a young man came to us. He walked for five days. He managed to do this despite his peritonitis and bowel obstruction.
There is also a little girl we call Basia. She had surgery on a contracture of her right arm. We are happy to see she can raise her hand over her head.
