We are delighted to share a summary of the seventh orthopedic mission led by Dr. Bartek Osadnik and his team of dedicated specialists.

  • 4 Dec 2025
  • Dorota Malag

These were days of intense work, immense commitment, and life-changing support for patients who, in local conditions, often have no access to specialized medical care.
Thanks to the expertise, determination, and compassion of the entire team, numerous complex procedures were performed, and invaluable knowledge was passed on to the local medical staff.

1. Medical Procedures Performed

During the mission, the team carried out:

  • 17 major orthopedic surgeries of the lower limbs, including:
    • amputations combined with skin grafts,
    • insertion of intramedullary nails,
    • placement of plates to stabilize fractures of the femur and tibia.
  • Dozens of orthopedic consultations for patients suffering from severe, often long-neglected injuries.
  • Specialized medical staff training, conducted by Edyta, covering:
    • intubation techniques,
    • ventilator management,
    • principles of safe general anesthesia.

These trainings significantly strengthen the local staff’s ability to provide high-quality care long after the mission concludes.

2. Delivered Equipment and Support

The mission was also an opportunity to deliver essential supplies and equipment critical for patient care in Katondwe. The hospital received:

  • Infant formula for newborns,
  • Power supply equipment for ventilators,
  • The final batch of orthopedic implant sets for bone fixation,
  • Orthopedic implants – nails, plates, and screws,
  • Equipment for general anesthesia,
  • Protective lead aprons for X-ray work,
  • Operating theatre clothing.

Each of these items plays an important role in improving treatment safety and supporting the daily work of the medical team on site.

Gratitude and Deep Respect

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bartek Osadnik and every member of his team for their time, expertise, and dedication to every surgery and consultation.
We also thank all donors and supporters of the Katondwe mission—your generosity makes this incredible work possible.

This mission is yet another powerful example of how much can be achieved when medical knowledge meets compassion, and when geography becomes no barrier to helping others.
