Dr Maciej Skarżyński – Surgeon in Katondwe

The beginning of April at the hospital in Katondwe was a very intense time for all of us. For several days, our team was joined by Dr Maciej Skarżyński, who was drawn into the daily life of our hospital almost from the very first moments of his stay.
From the moment he arrived, it was clear that this would not be a quiet time.
Numerous cases requiring urgent intervention, decisions, and the sheer scale of needs meant that the days were filled with work from early morning until late evening and at night. And yet, during all this, something very valuable emerged – the calm, commitment, and readiness to act that Dr Maciej brought with him to Katondwe.
We are especially moved by how naturally he adapted to our reality – to conditions that often differ greatly from those in European hospitals. He quickly became part of our team, sharing his knowledge, experience, and dedication.
It is not only the surgeries performed and the medical help provided that matter to us. It is also the conversations, the exchange of experiences, the joint search for solutions, and the simple human presence – so deeply needed in a place where we face many challenges every day.
Thank you for this time, for your tremendous work, openness, and commitment. For being with us – simply, genuinely.
We hope this will not be your last visit to Katondwe.
