At the Katondwe Mission Hospital, every day brings new challenges. Our reality is full of very tough moments, when we feel powerless, intertwined with the times that give us great satisfaction from the help we have provided. It is a great joy and a commitment for the future. We want to provide our patients with constant care of the highest possible standard and to constantly improve the conditions in the Hospital. Usually, the reality of life in Africa, in Zambia, is very different from the standards and convenience we know. Nevertheless, we make sure to end each day with a sense of a job well done and gratitude for all the good that has occurred. Of course, it would not be possible without the support of our Donors, for which we are very grateful.

Yesterday was the first day of Holy Week – a very important time in the Church. It is the remembrance of the events leading to the salvation of the world. In the chapel at our Sacred Heart Hospital, people gathered with green palm leaves in their hands. We celebrated together with the liturgy of Palm Sunday that way – the symbol of Jesus entering Jerusalem five days before his crucifixion. Attending the Holy Mass on that day means that we agree to carry the cross, suffer together with Christ and accept our lives as given to us by God.

The doctors have their hands full right from day one, when comprehensive assistance was needed during a c-section followed by full care for the new-born baby. Ula works in paediatrics field all the time, while Sara is deeply engaged in anaesthesiologic tasks. They complement each other in their work. We have received some medicines and small equipment from them.

The pandemic has thwarted plans with an earlier pallet shipment, but we have succeeded 😊, the equipment is already at the hospital. Thanks to the Polish Medical Mission Association for organizing the shipment.
Our gentlemen have their hands full to properly prepare the equipment for operation.
Sometimes it is difficult to express thankfulness for the kindness, which comes from you.

Their empathetic approach to the problem and their genuine concern let them very quickly organise a fundraiser to secure the orphan's vital needs and to purchase a supply of milk for the baby. Once again, they showed that their decisions are guided by a genuine desire to do good and to help those in need.
We are very proud of them!

The end of the week. The hospital is busy, and we are not asleep. Patients arrived injured by gunshots.
A fortnight earlier, a young man came to us. He walked for five days. He managed to do this despite his peritonitis and bowel obstruction.
There is also a little girl we call Basia. She had surgery on a contracture of her right arm. We are happy to see she can raise her hand over her head.
